That’s how it’s known in Belgium. It commemorates the ceasefire that (mostly) ended WWI on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. After WWII, the US changed its name to Veterans Day. That changed the meaning from a celebration of peace to a celebration of the military and war. It’s ‘support the troops’ day, no matter what they’re doing in the world. In fact, we’re supposed to be thankful that so many thousands of our young people are occupying countries that never attacked us, dying for nothing, killing civilians and threatening other countries with invasion if they don’t behave the way the US empire wants them to behave. November 11th has become a celebration of perpetual war.

To support the troops, bring them home.
