You are probably aware that the Obama administration now says it is continuing the Bush policy of authorizing the CIA and the military to assassinate American citizens whom the president designates as terrorists. And you are probably aware of this:
No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a grand jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the militia, when in actual service in time of war or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offense to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law ; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation.
Obviously, Obama, the constitutional law professor, has no use for the constitution. Once again, fear rules and the constitution gets tossed aside by the president who swears to uphold it. This is terrifying. We need to fear the loss of the legal system we cherish and not become so scared of possible terrorist acts that we will willingly tolerate the loss of our rights.
Hope and Change? Killing Americans just on the president’s say so, is probably the most terrifying act he can commit. How much scarier can it get?
