Two of our state’s Congresscritters, Adam Smith and Norm Dicks, both Democrats, are now running for cover because of their positions on the Iraq War. Both heartily and enthusiastically handed over Congress’ constitutional war-making authority to the President without bothering to consider whether the President’s claims about Iraq’s WMDs and involvement in 9/11 were true.
Now, mirabile visu, both are claiming they were lied to. Dicks claims to be "angry" about the faulty intelligence which, he says, led him to vote for war. Smith, with a straight face, is calling for an investigation because:
Congress, both in its responsibility to exercise oversight of federal government action and because we received much of the potentially incorrect information being put out by the Administration on Iraq, has the duty of ensuring open and honest communication between the White House and Congress.
This is all the rarest and purest political BS possible to hear anywhere in the USA. The poor little bastards; they were lied to. Boo hoo! But they never thought to exercise Congress’ "oversight" before going to war and causing the deaths and injuries of thousands of people.
These two clowns are morally repulsive. They should resign immediately.
